Dear Supporters

It’s the time of the year when the Jacaranda Tree at Hope House is in full bloom, the shops are filled with their Christmas decorations and gifts and Hope House has celebrated its Market Day. The House has wound down and many residents have gone home or are spending their free days with their families.

2023 had a rocky financial start. However, we put our heads together and created the R200 a month Club. Members pay a minimum of R200 a month and receive first option to attend fund raising functions. Our first function was a great success with John Dobson giving supporters a rugby talk prior to the World Cup. Tickets were sold out almost immediately and we made a handsome profit of R24500.00. Delicious wines from Groote Post were donated for consumption during the talk as well as handsome prizes of Zevenwacht and Middlevlei wines and weekends at The Arniston Hotel and 12 Apostles Hotel for auction.    Free tickets to the Stormers matches donated by John Dobson.

We are hoping to have a special fundraiser early next year and the R200 club will be given a preview notification.

Our biggest fundraiser this year has been the “3 days at Kuzuko Lodge “  very generously donated by Chris Bertie. The raffle caused lots of excitement and tickets were still being sold just prior to the draw at Open day. The raffle was won by Val and Stewart Briggs of Rondebosch. An amazing R35.000.00 was collected.

Hope House Open day was once again a joyous occasion where friends and families met to show their support. The residents had been busy with new projects led by our remarkable Sue Miller and were proud to share what they had achieved during the year.  One of the focal points this term included photography – a medium that connects with the world of art. Their poetry was also on display, an unique way of conveying their emotions, experiences and thoughts.

The year ended with the traditional Christmas party which was a great success. Sherezaan produced a delicious meal. It was an extremely jovial occasion and an excellent way for the residents and staff to end the year.

As always there are so many supporters to thank. There are the supporters who have been with us since the onset of Hope House and then the more recent supporters….  Each one is important to us, whether it is financial support, donations in kind, a big thank you to Roley du Preez for the lovely table, Woolworths Meadowridge and the Woolie’s ladies who tirelessly collect the foods from Meadowridge, Tom Fair who keeps an eye on maintenance, Stanley who keeps the garden looking lovely, our Staff who with kindness care for the residents,  Sherezaan with her delicious and imaginative meals, Lin who keeps the house running and then the Trustees who assist me in so many different ways. A HUGE thank you to each and every one.

We wish you a joyous festive season and may 2024 bring health, happiness and peace to All.

Warm regards
Jess
