OPEN DAY

Lyndsay and Faith Happy Shoppers Dylan and Samual Shoppers and Stalls Books for Sale

After the worrying two Covid years which forced us to miss Open Day in 2020 and 2021 it was a joy to have Open Day again. Hope House always ended the year with the celebration of Open Day. For our new residents this was quite a daunting occasion. For the other residents the excitement and preparation was exhausting. For the staff, led by Sherezaan Hendricks, it was bringing out the crockery and tablecloths, organising delicious eats and for Sue Miller, our skills therapist, it was a time of frantic preparation and hard work gently assisting the residents to produce works of excellence to showcase at their tables or at the Art /poetry exhibition. Open Day is a happy occasion. Apart from the usual stalls selling handmade items and the book and white elephant stall we added a special dimension with music played by two of our residents, Dylan Boshof and Samual Moore.  Visitors enjoyed a delicious tea in the garden. Open Day was a resounding success.

GRATEFUL FOR WHAT HOPE HOUSE OFFERS THE RESIDENTS

We are grateful that our residents spend full and stimulating days at Hope House organised by Sue Miller, Ali Berrange and Linda Stephens. This last quarter the Residents enjoyed art, clay work and poetry with the theme of gratitude. Time was spent playing table tennis or using the pool for water aerobics. The residents cooked meals, enjoyed the odd braai and had fun creating music and singing, led by one of the residents.

GRATEFUL FOR THE LOYAL STAFF

We are grateful to Bonita, Sherri, Charmaine, Belinda, Leticia and Stanley for their ongoing endeavours to ensure that Hope House continues to be a special place, year after year, for our residents.

I thank my Co-Trustees who have given unstintingly of themselves over this last year.  Next year Hope House comes of age when it turns 21 – something I feel very proud of.

Jess Mackintosh
